Six undergraduates travelled to the Hunza Valley in North Pakistan. Their objective was to attempt a systematic assessment of the impact of the Karakorum Highway on rural communities in the region, as reflected in the experience of one particular village, Garelt. The team used a research technique developed by professional social scientists known as Participant Rural Appraisal, and had the support of the Aga Khan Rural Support Programme at Gilgit.
